My journey as a musician started perhaps even before birth. I was born into a loving and busy household to loving and committed parents-both gifted musicians, writers and highly creative people. Before each of them, there is a rich line of creative and musical legacy and creativity. I attribute so much of who I am to who my parents are and where they came from. Growing up among eight siblings with a home where music was listened to, played, taught every day gave me a strong foundation and fueled my desires to perform and create melodies. As a young child I made up song-stories from books, sang songs to my baby brother and heard music from masters within genres of classical, baroque, jazz, pop and world streaming from record players and cassette tapes. All of us starting at a young age were required to learn and practice the piano and later on choose a second instrument through school and private lessons. I will forever be grateful for the education and rich musical upbringing I was blessed to receive.
Now here I am today - a mother of 6, a wife, a homemaker seeking to create and enjoy and share these God given gifts of music. My songwriting reflects much of my life experiences as a child and now as a mother, as a wife. Much of my music is about the comfort and beauties surrounding us in our natural world. The wind blowing through trees, flowing rivers and majestic mountains I see surrounding me as I move, run and climb and interact, fuels the desire within me to find words and mood within the melody and chords that will transfer joy, love, empathy to others. To create songs that reflect the joys and sometimes sadness that comes gives me vitality and energy and satisfaction within daily life. But sometimes the focus and passion gets so strong that I see things neglected among my family. And I have to stop, breathe and pray and re-assess. I also hope to continue and encourage my children to learn and listen to music as well so that their lives can be enriched as mine has. Truly the gift of music is one of the greatest blessings on earth that edify and strengthen us in this sometimes wild journey we call life. As I strive to care for my family, I also continue to join with the countless number of musicians/songwriters around the world, past and present who seek to inspire and bring goodness to others through the beauty of music.
